High Holiday Service Schedule | High Holiday Confirmation Form | High Holiday Description of Services and Policies

Description of Services

  • Adult Services
This year we will hold two Services at Beth Emet on Erev Rosh HaShanah and Erev Yom Kippur. Evening Services will begin at 6:00 p.m. and 8:30 p.m.
Both Services will be conducted in our traditional manner by Rabbi Peter S. Knobel, Rabbi Andrea C. London, Cantor Erin R. Frankel, and the Beth Emet Choir.
The Gates of Repentance prayerbook will be used for all Services.  On Rosh HaShanah and Yom Kippur mornings, there will be a Chavurah Service at 9:00 a.m. which is geared for families with school aged children through B’nai Mitzvah age. (See below for details.) There is also a morning service that will begin at 11:30 a.m. for Rosh HaShanah and 11:15 a.m. on Yom Kippur. (Please note the difference in times.) Babysitting will be available to families with children, infant to 5 years. (Except for the late Morning Services, where there is child programming available for children from kindergarten through third grade.)  Each member household received a ticket High Holiday Confirmation Form where changes can be made in regard to ticket requests as well as let us know other services you may need during the Holidays (e.g. babysitting, handicapped parking passes and/or additional prayerbooks). Please see the form for the complete listing of availability.
  • Morning Chavurah Service 9:00 A.M.
The Chavurah Service is a highly participatory and inclusive service designed to offer an innovative and meaningful blend of old and new to begin the New Year. Lively singing and music will be led by Cantor Frankel, Barb Wertico and Alan Goodis. We will again use our original prayerbook and will include special communal activities, readings, songs and Torah study. After the conclusion of the first day of Rosh HaShanah, there will be a communal walk together to the beach for tashlich, the symbolic casting way of sins. The Chavurah services is open to families with school-age children and other congregants interested in an alternative to the traditional Beth Emet High Holiday experience. Child care will be available for children 5 and younger (please sign up on the High Holiday Confirmation Form).
  • Children's Program during the Morning Service
11:30 a.m. (Rosh HaShanah) & 11:15 a.m. (Yom Kippur) *Please Note Change in Time
Beth Emet offers High Holiday programs for children from kindergarten through third grade during late Morning Services on Rosh HaShanah and Yom Kippur. This programming is at Beth Emet. It enables adults to participate in the morning Worship while providing supervised, meaningful Holiday activities for their children within the Synagogue building. Children must be pre-registered to attend. Volunteers to assist the staff are welcome. The program is limited to children of Beth Emet Members and is led by experienced staff.
Kindergartners through third graders attend a creative Worship Service and participate in games, activities, music, and projects focusing on the Days of Awe. Fourth through seventh graders are encouraged to attend Chavurah Services or the late Morning Service with their parents.
  • AFTERNOON FAMILY SERVICES
The Beth Emet Family Service for younger children (infant through preschool) and their families will begin on Rosh HaShanah afternoon at 3:30 p.m. and Yom Kippur afternoon at 2:15 p.m. Both Services are held in the Sanctuary and are open to the community. The Services include much singing, Beth Emet’s own junior shofar blowers, a story, and — of course — Dov Bear.

ADULT STUDY
In order to provide additional opportunities for study during the High Holidays, the Rabbis will lead text study and discussion at 9:30 a.m. on Yom Kippur morning and at 1:30 p.m. on Yom Kippur afternoon. The selected texts will explore the themes of the season — renewal, healing, repentance, and forgiveness.

To that end, if you are in need of special parking privileges and currently display a handicapped parking pass in your vehicle, please indicate on the High Holiday Confirmation Form your need for a parking pass. This will ensure that we save enough spaces and a pass will be sent with your tickets.

Ushers
All ushering is performed by Beth Emet members. You will be asked to present your ticket at the entrance to the Synagogue. Your ticket will be good for all Services, so please keep it with you at all times. We have a wonderful corps of ushers, and we welcome you to join us in helping welcome the holidays and welcome congregants to worship services. If you are interested, please let us know on the High Holiday Confirmation Form. Someone will contact you regarding scheduling one or more services.

Prayerbooks
Beth Emet uses Gates of Repentance at the High Holiday Services. Members supply their own books, which can be ordered in advance for $25 (see the High Holiday Confirmation Form). Prayerbooks may also be purchased at the Synagogue office.
