About Moishe Oysher

Moishe Oysher (1907-1958) was a star of the Yiddish radio, stage, and cinema. He was also one of the greatest cantors of the twentieth century. He made three Yiddish films in his early career: The Cantor’s Son, The Singing Blacksmith, and Overture to Glory. On his weekly Yiddish radio show, he was known as “The Master Singer of His People!,” or Der Master Zinger Fun Zain Folk!

A seventh generation cantor, Oysher also served as cantor at many prestigious posts throughout New York City, including the famed First Rumanian Shul in Manhattan’s Lower east Side. In his later years, Oysher made a series of recordings with radio personality Berry Gray which received much acclaim: Kol Nidre Night With Moishe Oysher, The Moishe Oysher Channukah Party, and The Moishe Oysher Seder.
