Kehillat Tzur Hadassah is Beth Emet's sister Reform Congregation located fourteen miles southwest of Jerusalem. It has become firmly established in the Jerusalem bedroom community of Tzur Hadassah drawing new Israeli members to the progressive community. It also shares its activities with members of the orthodox and secular communities of the town of Tzur Hadassah. In the first few years the congregation met in various locations including a bomb shelter or in a sports hall, and in 1999 the local authorities allocated a lot for the purpose of building a reform synagogue. This was an unprecedented move by any local authority, basically giving some level of official recognition to Reform Judaism in Israel. Their temporary home arrived just a week before Rosh Hashanah 5761. In 2002 the congregation moved to a central location in the the village, providing them with a safer environment for their children and congregants. For more information, check out their website and you can download the latest copy of their newsletter. Their current president once taught at Beth Emet while residing in the Chicago area. |
