Want to Save the World?
Perform the Mitzvah of Pikuach Nefesh (saving a life)
at the 2008 Beth Emet Blood Drive, Sunday March 16
According to the Talmud (Sanhedrin 37a): He who saves one life … is as if he
saved the entire world. What they say of course applies to all of us, to men and
to women.
It’s that time of year again to fulfill the mitzvah of pikuach nefesh. When
you donate blood, you save three lives. The Beth Emet Social Action Committee,
along with LifeSource, is having our annual Blood Drive in the Crown Room on
Sunday, March 16th, from 8:30 - 1:30, at 15 minute intervals to the sign-up
times.
As usual, there will be opportunity to nosh and schmooze with others in the
Crown Room during the Blood Drive. We will provide bagels and cream cheese and
have available copies of the New York Times and other Sunday papers.
In general, you can donate if you:
- Are 17 – 75 years of age.
- 16 year olds can donate with signed Parental Consent Form.
- Are in good health.
- Weigh at least 110 lbs.
- Have not donated in the last 56 days.
For more specific information about eligibility, please call the LifeSource
Medical Help Desk at 847-803-7921. Hours for the LifeSource Help Desk are
Mon-Thurs 8AM - 9PM, Friday 8AM - 5PM, Saturday 9AM - 3PM.
For the Parental Consent Form, please email

LifeSource says we are one of the largest synagogue/church blood drives in
the Chicago area. Please
schedule an appointment now and pass the word along to other members and to
your friends. You do not need to be a Beth Emet member to join our blood drive.
Everyone is welcome.
Reminder: Before you donate blood, you need to have a good
breakfast
(or brunch) and drink plenty of water or fruit juice.
