Food Drive at the High Holidays

The High Holiday Food Drive takes place annually and is a tzedakah project that involves the entire congregation. Grocery bags (which are donated by area supermarkets) are distributed to families at the Rosh Hashanah services, with the request that they be returned, filled with non-perishable items on Yom Kippur morning. A list of suggested items is stapled to each grocery bag. The bags are collected by the Greater Chicago Food Depository, which then distributes them to homeless shelters, food pantries and soup kitchens in the Chicago and Evanston areas.
