About the Congregation

At Beth Emet, you can explore the many joys of being Jewish through the myriad programs and exciting activities we offer, extending synagogue life beyond our numerous worship opportunities and established education curriculum. You'll find unique and abundant occasions for adults, children, and families to connect with the congregation, rejoice in our proud Jewish heritage, enjoy cultural and social events, and share talents and skills in a warm and caring environment.

Connect. Beth Emet members are committed to forging meaningful connections within our congregation, with the wider Jewish community, and with the world in which we live.

  • The Beth Emet Network cultivates community spirit and a welcoming atmosphere through religious, social, cultural, and educational activities, such as Shabbat dinners with stimulating guest speakers, and theater and sports outings.
  • Through chugim - small groups of members who plan their own activities based on common interests - you can share religious celebrations and educational programs, or simply get together for a bit of fun.
  • Our spirited junior and senior youth groups, affiliated with the North American Federation of Temple Youth (NFTY), reinforce the Jewish identity of our young people through social action, religious learning, and just plain fun. We continue our commitment to our children as they graduate, through our college outreach program.
  • Our members are involved in ARZA/World Union, North America, an organization dedicated to the advancement of Zionism and Progressive Judaism. Programs sponsored by our Israel Committee, from speakers to an annual Yom Ha'atzmaut celebration, connect us closely with Israel and our sister community, Congregation Tzur Hadassah on the outskirts of Jerusalem.
  • We share our experiences and customs with our sister congregation in Simferopol, Ukraine, helping members there to reconnect with their Jewish heritage.
  • Congregational trips to Israel offer memorable opportunities for members to experience the history and vitality of Israel.
  • At Beth Emet's annual community retreat, members savor a Shabbat weekend of camaraderie, song, worship, study, and relaxation.
  • Beth Emet wholeheartedly welcomes interfaith families and encourages them to take part in the full life of the congregation. For more information, see our website.

Share. Community embraces you at Beth Emet. All of our lives are enriched by the talents and energy we share.

  • Express yourself musically through the adult choir and Zamarim, a group for music enthusiasts of all ages and abilities.
  • Volunteer for the Ozerim (Helpers) Committee, which provides assistance to ill congregants in need of rides or meals, visits congregants in the hospital, helps arrange shiva minyans, and supports congregants in many other ways.
  • Explore issues of health and healing from a Jewish perspective with our rabbis and congregants involved in medicine and healthcare.
  • Strengthen and enrich Jewish identity through our Outreach Committee, which plans and presents programs on topics facing interfaith families and Jews-by-choice.

Enjoy. We truly appreciate the chance to share good times with our congregational family through religious celebrations and special social and cultural events.

  • Enjoy a creative approach to tradition: Take pleasure in an informal Shabbat potluck picnic, a colorful Purim carnival, an environmentally focused Tu B'Shevat seder, and the annual Sukkah Walk, a harvest holiday twist on the progressive dinner.
  • Expand your Jewish horizons with books ranging from the latest novels to ancient commentaries from our well-stocked library, established as soon as our religious school building opened in 1955.
  • Delight in an outstanding musical experience at Beth Emet's annual Mogul concert, featuring leading classical and contemporary musicians.
  • Have "phun" at events sponsored by our Phun Committee, dedicated to planning entertaining events from a family spaghetti dinner to bowling to disco dance nights.
