Programs for Families with Children

At Beth Emet, we strive to foster a sense of community within our large congregation and endeavor to engage children and families in a variety of Jewish experiences, from classroom education to holiday celebrations. Below you will find ongoing opportunities for families to enjoy:

Mishpacha (family) Shabbat Pot-luck Dinners: first Friday of each month at 5:30 p.m.
All are welcome to join us for our monthly pot-luck dinner for families with children ages 0-8. All families (members and non-members) are always welcome! After dinner, you are welcome to join the congregation for 6:30 Kabbalat Shabbat services. Stay for as much of the service as is comfortable for your family.

This program is free to all participants and is sponsored by the Mishpacha Committee members and their families.

Tot Shabbat: third Saturday of each month at 9:00 a.m

A lively 30 minute Tot Shabbat service. Geared toward children under 5 and their parents or grandparents, we sing with Cantor Luck, dance with the Torahs, and enjoy a story from Rabbi London. Afterwards, everyone gathers for lox and bagel brunch, playtime for the children and schmooze-time for adults.

Kahal

Kahal means community, and this intergenerational Shabbat morning worship service takes place at 9:30 a.m. each Saturday. It offers a weekly opportunity to pray and study in a lively, family-friendly environment. Families worship together until the Torah service. Twice a month, after the Torah is read, while adults study Torah together, the children attend their own, age-appropriate Torah study and activity groups. Services are followed by Kiddush and, once a month, a potluck lunch. Babysitting is available at no charge for families attending Kahal. Festival/Holiday Services

For the High Holidays, we offer Chavurah services for families with school-aged children and Young Children's Services for families with children through preschool age. We also offer programming for families with children at many of the festival holidays. We have a "child friendly" Purim play and a large, high-energy Purim carnival each year. Additional examples include a children's art workshop on Shavuot and our Mishpacha Committee's "Popsicles on the Playground" following the Rosh Hashanah Young Children's Service.

Drop-in

In addition to worship opportunities for families with children, we also offer Drop-in, a non-structured program for children ages newborn-3 years and their parent/caregiver. Children have an opportunity to explore toys and books, play on climbing equipment and make new friends. Snack is provided. Come weekly or once in a while...no registration required. A nominal fee of $3.00 is requested each visit. For more information, contact This e-mail address is being protected from spambots.
