Grade 8: Mitzvah Corps and Electives
The 8th grade program at Beth Emet has several different components, all geared towards developing leadership skills and fostering a sense of community.
Mitzvah Corps program provides an opportunity for students to put Jewish values into practice through social action through experiential learning that takes teens out of the classroom and into the community. Through monthly off-site experiences, teens volunteer, meet with social service agencies, and engage in hands on learning. In addition, Mitzvah Corps students experience monthly classroom sessions that contexualize experiences and promote engaged Jewish learning. The experiential nature of the program gives the students a chance to further develop their social consciences and build community through engaging in tikkun olam.
Madrichim in Training program helps students to harness their leadership abilities as they learn the skills necessary to be a classroom assistant (boys: madrich, girls: madricha, plural: madrichim) in our Beit Sefer program. The skills learned in this class apply not only to the synagogue classroom but to many situation in which students take on leadership roles.
In addition, Rosh Chodesh: It's a Girl's Thing continues from the 7th grade. Learn more about Rosh Chodesh.
