Mitzvah Corps (Grade 8)

Eighth_GradeThe 8th grade program at Beth Emet has several different components, all geared towards developing leadership skills and fostering a sense of community.

Our Mitzvah Corps program provides an opportunity for students to put the “act” in social action as they engage in a different issue-based social action project each month in addition to learning about why each of these challenges is a Jewish issue. The experiential nature of the program gives the students a chance to further develop their social consciences and build community through acts of kindness. Full calendar (2012-13 / 5773)

The Madrichim-in-Training program helps students to harness their leadership abilities as they learn the skills necessary to be a classroom assistant (boys: madrich, girls: madricha, plural: madrichim) in our Beit Sefer program. The skills learned in this class apply not only to the synagogue classroom but to any situation in which students take on leadership roles.

Our young women in 8th grade have the option to participate in a monthly Rosh Chodesh group (Rosh Chodesh is the Hebrew term for the new moon).  This is a program that starts in 7th grade and provides a safe and supportive environment for our young women to explore the unique challenges and opportunities that come with being a teenage girl. The program is guided by a female teacher and the students engage in different discussions and projects based on a variety of relevant issues and questions.
