Kathy Kaberon & Fran Zimmerman, Directors of Early Childhood

Kathy Kaberon - Kathy Kaberon was named co-director of the Early Childhood Program in 2004, along with Fran Zimmerman. Her affiliation with the program began in 1988, when her son enrolled as a student, and she chaired Beth Emet’s first Early Childhood Committee. She has been teaching for 15 years in Beth Emet’s Early Childhood Program, and continues to teach the Kadima class for 2 ½ year olds. Kathy also taught Religious School here for many years. As a Beth Emet congregant, she serves on the Soup Kitchen Steering Committee and the Ozerim Committee. She received her Bachelor’s in Social Work from the University of Illinois and a Masters in Early Childhood Education from National-Louis University. Kathy is completing a fellowship with the Jewish Early Childhood Education Initiative, where she studied an approach that combines Jewish values with the best in progressive Early Childhood Education. She’s very excited to share this with the Beth Emet Early Childhood community.

Fran Zimmerman - Fran Zimmerman has been a co-director of early child education at Beth Emet with Kathy Kaberon since 2004, overseeing the various classes and programs for families in Beth Emet’s Early Childhood Program. Fran and Kathy also coordinate Tot Shabbat each month with the clergy for families with young children. Fran has taught for 21 years in Beth Emet’s Early Childhood Program and continues to teach in the program. Fran received her Bachelor’s degree in Religious Studies from Indiana University and is a greadutate of the Baltimore Institute for Jewish Communal Service, where she received a Masters in Social Work and a Masters from the University Of Maryland School Of Social Work and a Masters in Jewish Studies from the Baltimore Hebrew College. She received her Certificate in Advanced Study in Early Childhood Education from National-Louis University in 2004.
