Interfaith Couples and Families

Beth Emet wholeheartedly welcomes interfaith families and encourages them to take part in the full life of the congregation.

The Synagogue designs programs to meet the varied needs of interfaith families, to enhance their Jewish experience, and to encourage practice and participation in synagogue life at a level that suits their individual needs. Input and feedback from Beth Emet’s interfaith families is wholeheartedly encouraged in order to understand their experience as a part of the Beth Emet community. The Union for Reform Judaism, the congregational arm of the Reform Movement of which Beth Emet is a member congregation, makes this statement about Outreach:

Reform Jewish Outreach serves a diverse population: men and women; interfaith and interracial couples; converts, those in the process of conversion and religious seekers; Jews of color; people of all sexual orientations; single adults and blended families; rich and poor; young and old and in-between. As Reform Jews, we are committed to actively welcoming all and building vibrant, inclusive congregational communities. We seek to perform the mitzvot of ahavat ger (loving the stranger) and keruv (drawing near all who are far).

Beth Emet’s clergy and Klei Kodesh (professional staff) as well as its members strive to make URJ’s commitment a reality.

* Rabbi London is available for guidance and support to help our interfaith families become an integral part of our synagogue. Our clergy aspire to play an important role in the Jewish lives and identity of marriage-age children by providing sensitive and caring consultation and support about life-cycle issues and events.

* An important goal of Outreach at Beth Emet is encouraging and strengthening Jewish identification of children of interfaith families in households where the decision has been made to raise a child in the Jewish tradition.
